Super Eagle will not make anything out of AFCON 2024 if Peseiro is the Manager – Jalla

Harrison Jalla, Chairman of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) Task Force, expressed doubts about the Super Eagles making a significant impact in the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, citing a lack of tactical skills for the tournament.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday, Jalla noted that the team’s self-esteem had diminished while struggling against teams like Lesotho and Zimbabwe. He emphasized the need for early changes to prevent a potential catastrophe during Nigeria’s participation in AFCON 2024.

Jalla criticized the current state of the team under Coach Jose Peseiro, asserting that the Super Eagles lack the managerial skills necessary to unleash their potential. He emphasized the absence of a competent coach and manager since the passing of Stephen Keshi, stating that Peseiro has caused damage through technical ineptitude.

According to Jalla, Nigeria cannot afford to retain Peseiro for AFCON, as the team has lost self-esteem and struggles against seemingly weaker opponents. He suggested building a new Super Eagles team with home-based players as the core, believing that such a squad would have easily defeated Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

With the AFCON competition featuring 24 countries from January 13 to February 11, and Nigeria drawn against host country Cote d’Ivoire, Jalla’s concerns revolve around the urgent need for changes in coaching and team composition.
